Floating Lanterns

Hey Joey, I'm Haley - Molly's sister. Nice to meet you, sort of. I found these lanterns and thought they might be close to the magic and Hogwarts feel of which Molly is so fond. Aren't they pretty! I have heard so many wonderful things about you, and I hope I get to meet you while I'm in town.

SOOO COOL! http://www.wishesinthesky.com/

shoes

Dear Tom,
I adore you.
Love, Molly

These are the shoes I want to wear at my wedding. Dress must match accordingly in color and style -- comfortable and casual, but unique -- and, you know, fit to be married in.

Developments: Venue & Dress

I have made an appointment with the Camrose Hill Flowers lady ("Mary"). I'm FAIRLY sure that it's set -- I've been playing phone tag with her, and the last I heard from her, she said Tuesday the 16th was good, and she had times at 11 and 1PM, so I called her back and told her 1PM was good. I haven't heard back from her, so I'm assuming she received the message, but I'll call her on Monday just to make sure we're all set.

I also spoke with a friend of mine who apparently already went to see Camrose for her wedding. She said the area and land was gorgeous and that if you do take it, there will be little to no need for any extra decorations. The downsides to the property were mostly minor, such as the fact that Mary doesn't allow outside flowers (so your bouquet will have to be through her). The biggest downside to the property is that she has no public access restrooms, so there would be an additional fee of renting a nice restroom option.

Alyssa said she remembered the pricing being around $1500 for both the garden and the reception barn for the day, and that was on a Saturday. It's likely that it will be much cheaper for a Friday or Sunday. Also, if the decoration is essentially provided for, you will already be saving money by not buying that. It is a little spendy, but it's also a gorgeous venue and I think it's worth going to take a look.

I also contacted Maggie Schultz, the seamstress, and sent her the photos of the JCrew dresses you liked. She guestimated it would be about $50-$100 for fabric (depending on what kind of fabric you want it made of) and she would charge around $20/hr for the labor. I asked her to put together some mock-up sketches and get some quotes, and put together a portfolio, and I would arrange a meeting for the two of you.

Anywho, that's the update for now!

Camrose

I've called Camrose Wednesday and Thursday. No answer. I'm thinking they may be on vacation after Labor Day. I'll call again Friday and again on Monday. I'm hoping it's a vacation and not just sheer unprofessionalism, HA. Because I really love their place, and I'd really love to have the wedding there.

I also spoke with the guy who knows the seamstress; I'm going to try and get in touch with her this week and talk about dresses, and patterns, and costs. I'll take the new dress ideas in with me as well, and see what she comes up with.

more dresses

So as much as I would love love love that JCrew dress with the effing pockets, I don't think that'll happen.
Joey knows somebody that could make me something. Then it could be everything I want it to be.
Amanda told me to keep looking for substitutes, other dresses I like.
So that's what I've been doing.

I want something tea-length and ivory/off-white. I like strapless. I like long bodices and poofy bell skirts.

Here are a couple of JCrew dresses I freaking LOVE that don't come in ivory or anything close.

Fontaine dress

I... really like this dress. I loooove the ruffles, maybe better than something poofy. Make it strapless and add pockets. Love the length. So cute!
I like this color, too. I might just have to get this dress.

Berry-trim strapless Nathalie dress

Just lovely detail.

I find myself drifting back to lacy dresses.
Like this one

I don't get the jacket, but the dress and the lace are very nice.

And finally, maybe my new favorite -- if only it had pockets! --
Jenny Yoo's Lucy

I want the bodice longer to the hips, the skirt a bit poofier and maybe a few inches longer... but it's just precious. And it needs pockets.

ramblings on Claire's photos

Met with Joey and Claire today.
I really like Camrose Hill Flower Garden. Want to go see it. It's simple and easy and beautiful.

Claire has some lovely work in photos. I get them. I think I'd be happy to help her expand her portfolio with a wedding. It looks like she likes getting in the action and taking good ... what's that called?... non-posed, action shots... um. There's a word for that. Uhh. Candid!! That's it. Candids are important to me.
She also has great framing -- artistic but not trendy. Very important as well.
Portraits were pretty.

I worry about 1. lighting. For photographers who are still gaining XP, lighting is one of the toughest things, and an outdoor, Christmas-light and candle lit wedding where people are dancing poses difficulties when it comes to capturing professional, non-blurry shots. Her photos where things looked slower and where she could take her time where just lovelylovely, but some of the quicker shots captured a little too much movement. Well, I still liked them, actually. And I would want some like that for the wedding -- capturing the feel, you know? Dancing and drinking and laughter and friends always looks like that. But I worry that with dim lighting... you know.

I also worry about 2. XP. She's a good photographer, I can tell. But she's young, and never done a wedding.
Here's the thing: Can't hit if you don't swing. I'm totally willing to let Claire blow me away with awesome photos of Joey's awesome wedding for me. We'll have to discuss how much she'd do the wedding for, but if it reasonably matches her experience, I'm down.
She won't be the only one taking pictures. There will be lots of cameras, hopefully Chris' hi def video camera -- and I love the idea of disposable cameras lying around for people to take pictures on. I mean, Claire won't be able to be everywhere at once.

Questions --
Does Claire have all the hardware to make it happen? (Flashes and diffusers for low light setting.)
How much?
How much do I want her to photograph? The days before when people are in town (rehearsal dinner??)? Chili cooking? Putting on the dress? Portraits? ... Maybe the better question is: how much is she willing to photograph?

Calendarrrr

The Google Calendar has been made; Molly and Nate have had invitations sent to them. I may make a public version of it for friends and family later, but for now it's just you guys and me who see it. I encourage you to enter your work schedule (or at least times you are available) so that we can put together times to meet, see venues, go places and look, etc.
